Don’t be a stranger is a videopoem created by Fabio FON that departs from the appropriation of clichés images and phrases for a brief narrative based on an escapist dialogue between humans and their planet. Why, as we live our lives, are we waiting for the planet to be uninhabitable for us and so many other species? Do we believe in the hypothesis that man-made artificiality is capable of guaranteeing the survival of our specie in the most inhospitable scenario? The work dialogues with the reflections of Clarissa Ribeiro’s curatorship in the project LASER Talks Fortaleza – WE ARE NOT ALONE, Leonardo/ISAST, an initiative in which the videopoem participated in 2021.

“Ceci n’est pas la justice”, 2021 – is a digital artwork that is part of the “Ceci n’est pas…” series created by Playades (aka Soraya Braz – @theplayades (twitter)). From the famous sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarotti, which depicts Jesus dead in his mother’s arms, the theme is revisited in this work to represent stories of crime and violence, specially when resulting from social inequality. The work features a phrase in French that means “This is not justice”. It is inspired by René Magritte’s famous masterpiece ‘La trahison des images’ (The Treachery of Images – This is Not a Pipe, 1929).

“Ceci n’est pas une maison”, 2021 – is a digital artwork that is part of the “Ceci n’est pas…” series created by Playades (aka Soraya Braz – @theplayades). The work features a phrase in French that means “This is not a home”, an ironic provocation on current times and invites us to think about the recent expedition’s wave to other planets, the speculation upon possible new habitats for humanity and to assess what should be the priorities in the face of the current climate emergency.
