“TEMPER_SBJKT41” is an episode/video-performance that is part of the film “TEMPER” — a yet-to-be-realized film — by the duo 100porcent_genuine (100%), consisting of L dos Santos Silva and Rodrigus Pinheiro. The video-performance takes place spontaneously during L’s sudden trip to the city of São Paulo in August 2022, during which L decides to: 1. rent room 408 in a hotel; 2. acquire a security camera from the S. Ifigênia market to install it in the room; 3. propose to Rodrigus (their partner) to remotely control the camera and L’s filming process in the room from the city of Rio de Janeiro, where Rodrigus resides. The work’s procedures were already being planned and experimented with even before the duo realized that these last-minute decisions were forming one of the many fictions that make up “TEMPER”, the film that has not been made yet but is constantly lived and fabricated, blurring the boundaries that attempt to define our factual and fictional actions. As L’s actions unfold in the room (L, who now takes on the role of “SBJKT41”), and Rodrigus proposes certain movements and situations through remote voice commands emitted from the security camera (Rodrigus, now watching L as “Enter”), a script/score is woven and reshaped without precedence or planning, leading the artists to create a 12-hour uninterrupted laboratory of performance, correspondence, and self-experimentation. Interconnected by distant signals, the artists create a space in the hotel room that alternates between both forms: at times, it becomes a sphere of security, within which SBJKT41 dares to access their vulnerabilities and confide in the camera watched and controlled by Enter, questioning the limits of their personas, the boundaries their body carries and can perform, as well as their ongoing processes of subjectivation (“I want to do here what I do when I’m alone and no one sees”, L said); at other times, it becomes a circumstance that drives SBJKT41 to confront the virtual and established fabrications of themselves, through which we, users of virtual networks and platforms, are all haunted. The images trigger this pulsating tension between public and private, author and work, direction and directed, fact and fiction, body and mind, gender performance and signs, narrowing and dismantling their presumed distances and conventions. The 12 hours of performance conclude in an unplanned manner, right after the artists utter the “security sentence/poem” they created for that moment, which would interrupt the filming process of “TEMPER_SBJKT41”, but would continue to resonate in the days that followed, ready to spark the next episode/situation/performance of “TEMPER” by 100%. The film/video-performance “TEMPER_SBJKT41” will be streamed on the Twitch platform throughout the entire exhibition period of “Net art died but is doing well”.
