“This is not…” series are digital poems created by Soraya Braz. They are inspired by René Magritte’s famous masterpiece “La trahison des images – Ceci n’est pas une pipe”(The Treachery of Images – This is Not a Pipe, 1929). For VERBIVOCOVIRTUAL exhibition, the artist presented two poems from this series. In the first video, “This is not a home”, features an ironic provocation on current times and invites us to think about the recent expedition’s wave to other planets, the speculation upon possible new habitats for humanity and to assess what should be the priorities in the face of the current climate emergency. The second video, “This is not justice”, the famous sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarotti, which depicts Jesus dead in his mother’s arms, is revisited in this work to represent stories of violence and sorrow, when resulting from social issues.
