2023
[local_distante] was a piece originally generated to be presented live during the 2023 edition of the Kerouac Festival in Mexico City. It consists of a series of visual poems in motion (which I call verbal sculptures) that thematically explore subjects such as disappearance, the question of whether the real is truly real, and what happens when something ceases to exist (if it ever existed at all). The verbal sculptures are mounted on a grid that, to me, represents the space-time continuum, so the verbal objects are placed, akin to celestial bodies, on the grid of the space-time continuum. Regarding the sound, along with the electronic music specifically produced to accompany the piece (emulating the rhythm with which the poems move), we can hear a robotic voice that reads a text generated by AI (Chat-GPT). The instructions given to Chat-GPT to generate the text were: “write an essay explaining object-oriented ontology, the principle of quantum non-locality, and, as a conclusion, establish a relationship between both concepts.” Therefore, [local_distante] is an exercise that combines visual poetry in motion, philosophy, quantum physics, music, AI, and computerized voice to explore questions that, to me, are both profound and crucial for our understanding of reality.
