Who framed the white cube

2023

The transformation of the old cinema «BYL» into the center of contemporary art became the starting point for the reflection of the author, whose path to the art also began from the world of cinema. Classical narratives are being replaced by a moving surreal world of symbols. This kaleidoscopic collage transcends the cinema screen and invades the cinema hall, it changes the usual viewing rituals and creates a new perceptual situation. This artwork is an attempt to expand the viewer’s experience, blur the boundaries between reality, screen and imaginary, as well as involve the audience in the game of interpretations and search of inherent meanings.Original screening format supposed projection to the multiple split screens installed amongst the audience sits at the cinema hall. The idea of merging the «white cube» space and the cinema hall creates a different viewing ritual for the audience, a new perceptive situation where they can look at themselves in the «mirror».
