The proposal explores the creative possibilities of the aforementioned AIs (ChatGPT and DALL-E from OpenAI, and Flow from Google Labs). While the earlier project (“Ejercicio recreativo con IA sobre ‘Un día… Poemas sintéticos’ de José Juan Tablada”) examined the particularities of machine interlinguistic and intersemiotic translations, the current work tests the integration of those materials within a cinematic discourse, with the intention of producing an “expanded reading” of “Un día… Poemas sintéticos” (1919) by José Juan Tablada. Once again, it became clear that AIs enhance the creative processes of translation and mutual contamination between artistic languages, opening the possibility of an augmented intersemiosis through the participation of non-human agents whose functioning is governed by random and statistical criteria.
AI Context
The relationship of the work with AIs operates on several levels. The book “Un día… Poemas sintéticos” (1919) is composed of 38 haiku written by the Mexican poet José Juan Tablada, each accompanied by drawings made by the author himself. Based on these poems and images, both interlinguistic translations (Spanish–English and vice versa) and intersemiotic translations (text to image and vice versa) were carried out with the assistance of various OpenAI tools. The results were published on the webpage “Ejercicio recreativo con IA sobre ‘Un día… Poemas sintéticos’ de José Juan Tablada” (2023) (www.tablada.unam.mx/tabladaia). In the present work, these materials served as the foundation for creating video animations using Google Labs AI “Flow” (Veo 3.1), which were then edited in sequence, thus forming an integrated video-reading. La relación de la obra con las IA’s se da en varios niveles. El libro “Un día… Poemas sintéticos” (1919) está compuesto por 38 haikús escritos por el poeta mexicano José Juan Tablada, acompañados cada uno por dibujos realizados por el propio autor. Sobre estos poemas e imágenes se realizaron traducciones interlingüísticas (español-inglés y viceversa) e intersemióticas (texto a imagen y viceversa), con ayuda de distintas IAs de Open AI, y los resultados quedaron registrados en la página “Ejercicio recreativo con IA sobre ‘Un día… Poemas sintéticos’ de José Juan Tablada” (2023) (www.tablada.unam.mx/tabladaia). En la presente obra, estos materiales sirvieron de base para realizar animaciones de video utilizando la IA Flow (Veo 3.1) de Google Labs, las cuales fueron montadas en sucesión, integrando así una video-lectura.

Rodolfo Mata — poet, translator, and digital creator — works at UNAM. He is coauthor of two anthologies of Brazilian poets and essayists, as well as of “Antología Lit(e)Lat Volume 1 of Latin American Electronic Literature (2021).
